Heart Germs & Gems: Generosity

We understand how important it is for parents to raise children with strong Islamic character — not just good behaviour, but a good heart.

And we know these conversations can feel difficult.

In this series, feelings like anger, stinginess and envy are represented by heart germs, because they can make our hearts sick. They are unwanted, just like a germ. Having control of these feelings, or the opposite of them, like calm, generosity and gratitude – basically, all the good stuff - is represented by a shining heart gem. Because after all, these feelings and ways of being, get rid of the heart germs and feel warm and bright inside us.

Why is this book needed?

In a world that encourages wanting more, children can easily become protective over what they have. When generosity is not nurtured, children may struggle with sharing, empathy, and caring for others, growing attached to possessions rather than to Allah. This book helps parents teach their children to recognise stingy feelings, understand their effect on the heart, and learn prophetic ways to practise generosity with joy and sincerity.
